Understanding Cell Phone Minutes

Understanding how your cellular minutes work is one of the most confusing and least understood aspects of any wireless communications plan. It's not surprising that this lack of understanding is what leads to shockingly high phone bill surprises. So if you want to prevent getting one it's important to have a basic understanding of how they work.

You basic cell phone plans come with a monthly allotment of anytime minutes, and usually free or night and/or weekend minutes. When you make a call the thing to understand is the phone company is going to use the most expensive minutes first. For example let's say your plan has 200 minutes per month. During the first week of the month all of your calls are made during the day using what are known as peak minutes. You make 120 minutes worth of calls. For the remainder of the month you make 200 minutes worth of calls but they are all at night during the time when your carrier offers free calling. You've used 320 minutes worth of calling time for the month. However to your wireless provider you used 200 of your anytime minutes, and they gave you 120 minutes of free night time calling. Many people make the assumption they only used 120 minutes of calling time and have 80 minutes left unused, which is incorrect. This incorrect assumption can compound itself if the customers has a rollover plan and assumes 80 minutes are �going into the bank�. For this calling period however there will be no overage charges.

Lets look at another example. During the first three weeks of the month you make 200 minutes worth of calls at night during the free calling period. The the last week in the month you make 120 minutes of calls during the day or peak hours. You made 320 minutes worth of calls but the 200 were at night and were free and the 120 is less than the 200 so there will be no overage charges right? Well if you thought like that you'll be pretty surprised with the overage charges that came on your next bill. Your wireless provider used your 200 anytime minutes during the first three weeks when you were calling at night. So when you made the 120 minutes of calls the last week of the month they were all peak overage minutes. Overage minutes are always billed at higher cost than regular minutes which makes the problem worse.

The key point to understand is the wireless provider is always going to use the most expensive minutes first. In fact it's impossible to use �free night and weekend minutes� until you have gone through all of your anytime minutes first. Understanding exactly how your wireless minutes work can help you plan out how to avoid overage charges at the end of the month

I could not believe what I was hearing, it is already illegal to hijack a plane and the FAA says you must park aircraft at aviation facilities and that would preclude parking it into a building and killing innocent people. Not to mention Inteational Acts of Terrorism are already illegal?

Why Laptops are Different than Desktops

Wifi So What Is It

In this article we're going to begin to define what wifi is and just how it works.

Relatively speaking, wifi is a new technology, created within the last couple of years at the time of this writing. However, the basis on which is created is not really new. Wifi is short for wireless fidelity as applied to connecting multiple computers. Or in other words, wireless networking.

The reason this is not really new is because we've had wireless forms of communication for some time now. One needs to look no further than ones own hi fidelity stereo system. The signal from the ration station transceiver travels wireless through the air until it reaches the antenna connected to your radio. This technology has been around for ages. But as applied to computers, yes, this is something very new.

So, how does wireless networking work?

The 802.11 standard, on which networks are based, defines two modes which are infrastructure mode and ad hoc mode. With infrastructure mode, the wireless network is composed of at least one access point which is connected to the wired network infrastructure which includes a set of wireless end stations. This particular configuration is called a Basic Service Set or BSS. An extended service set, or ESS, is a set of multiple BSS sets which form a single subnetwork. Because most WLANs require access to a wired LAN for services such as file servers, printers and Inteet links, they usually operate in infrastructure mode.

The difference between Ad Hoc mode and Infrastructure mode is that Ad Hoc mode is just a set of 802.11 wireless stations that communicate directly with each other without using an access point or any connection to a network that is wired. This mode is great for quickly and easily setting up a wireless network where a wireless infrastructure doesn't exist or is simply not needed for services. Some places where this would be true are hotel rooms, convention centers and airports or any place where wired networks are forbidden.

While connected to a wireless network, you can do most basic things that are not too intensive such as check email, browse the Inteet, connect to conferences, access your home directory, use programs such a network word processor and use printing services. You should not use wireless networks for streaming audio or video, downloading anything that is large or viewing web sites that are intense in graphics.

Even though wireless networks are nice to look at you will still get the best performance and highest speeds from wired networks. Generally speaking, a wireless connection works the same way as an Etheet connection. The speed of a wireless network is about 11 megabits per second. The problem is that with a wireless network you have to share the bandwidth with all the users connected to the wireless network in a given network. This is what slows the network down and makes intensive operations difficult to perform. It is because of this that wireless networks will never be as fast as a wired Etheet network.

Satellite television on your cell phone? That's what Samsung says it's working on.

A whole new world looks set to emerge with video-on-the-go services _ and the traditional couch potato may become a thing of the past.

Their cell phone would receive multimedia programming broadcasts direct via satellite or from terrestrial repeaters. It's still in development, but is expected to be compatible with a new satellite broadcasting service that is planned to launch in South Korea and Japan later this year.

It's expected to have around 70 channels of entertainment not including pay-per-view. The service will be broadcast on frequencies around 2.6GHz, close to the 2.1GHz band used by 3G telephone services. However a clear signal is still required so Mobile Broadcasting has been building a network of repeaters across Japan to provide fill-in service.

DBS satellite services in the United States have a much larger land area to cover. The beams can't be as focused. Multiple spot beams might concentrate the signal however. A second approach would be to use satellite radio services that already exist in the United States (with repeaters). A third approach might be to use FM radio stations equipped with terrestial HD radio. The video payload might travel on the subcarrier of terrestrial FM stations. HD radio does something the U.S. DTV television standard can't -- move. And you don't need a big payload for tiny screens.

The company aims to make take-out TV more attractive by increasing the number of video channels to 14 by adding popular over-the-air programs to its line-up.

We can sit back and watch as this new technology takes hold, or we can embrace it now and be state of the art. TV on your cell phone will bring a whole slew more options to you and could really catch on as the medium of choice for many people.

I would highly suggest that you keep an eye on Samsung and their emerging technology. This will be more than just a fad and I can see where many, many people would take to this type of portable entertainment. I predict that in five years, this technology will not only be tops in society, but will grow to lengths never before imagined by people today. Check it out.

Most also offer miniature QWERTY keyboard layouts-- The standard placement of keys that you find on computer keyboards or typewriters.

That means Smartphones are less streamlined, so they may not be the right choice for those who are unlikely to use these features. But many professionals have already embraced the convenience of integrating all these functions into a single unit.

With each generation of mobile phone technology, manufacturers have tailored their phones to meet our individual needs and lifestyles. And, despite their ever-increasing capabilities and complexity, the industry has focused on keeping them user-friendly.
