Why A Satellite Phone May Be Right For You

What is the best way for you to communicate with others? Depending on what your needs are, it just might be a satellite phone. I had heard of satellite phones, but didnt know what they were really good for. I found, though, that they can be the best way for you to communicate, especially in remote area where you may not be able to find mobile phone coverage. What is good is that with a satellite phone you can probably manage to stay connected no matter where in the world you might be at any given time.

In many ways, a satellite phone looks a lot like the old mobile phones from the 1980s. They are large and have a big antenna that must be extended for use, which is because of the way the phones work. Satellite phones, unlike mobile phones, work by talking to satellites that are in orbit around the Earth. Most mobile phone cannot communicate from anywhere on Earth, a good satellite phone, though can do just that.

In the past, satellite phones were only for people who might find themselves in need of communication from a remote region somewhere in the world. However, due to technological advances, you will find that they are becoming more and more mainstream. In fact, you may seem satellite phones offered in smaller versions that look more like a cell phone very soon.

Not all satellite phones offer world wide coverage, but many of them do and more are becoming that way. This would allow you, if you had one, to stay connected no matter where you were. If you think you might really benefit from a satellite phone, it is best to check out the Inteet to get one. The best in phone technology can be found on the inteet. You will find better pricing plans there as well, so take some time and do a little research.

Satellite phones are not necessarily just for global adventurers anymore. They are becoming more mainstream as technology increases and price decreases. Plus, as our world becomes more and more connected more of us are in search of a way to communicate from anywhere. With the inteet, you will be able to find the latest and greatest in satellite phone technology and the best price plans available so that you can communicate no matter where in the world you may find yourself. Think you might need to communicate from a remote location/ Then just maybe a satellite phone is the right communication tool for you.

Thoughts on a Challenging Custom Car Audio Job

Could a car owner have custom car audio added to a vehicle with lambo doors? That question has popped into the head of a freelance writer in Califoia. The writer has previously witnessed all of the operations involved in the process of adding custom car audio to a Jeep Cherokee. Now she has leaed that car owners are being encouraged to get Lamborghini-like doors.

That freelance writer hesitates to imagine what she may next find in her driveway. In November of 2005 the writer found two young adult males using her driveway as the site for the addition of custom car audio. One of those two lads had taken a course on auto mechanics with the former instructor at Culver City High School, a school close to Sony studios. He had agreed to share his knowledge with the writers son. Hence, the two of them had commenced the long process required to complete a custom car audio job.

At one point the writers son called to his mother and invited her to come outside and to see for herself what her son and his friend were doing. What that writer saw was two car doors with the stuffing pulled out of them. The quest for a custom car audio system had led those two young men to place speakers in the doors of the Jeep Cherokee.

The two stereo specialists did not show the writer how they had wired the speakers to the power source and to the amplifier. Their failure to grant the writer a look at their wiring operations has caused that writer to now ponder on a particular question: Could a vehicle with car speakers in the doors also have lambo doors? In other words, could a car owner who enjoyed the sound delivered by custom car audio logically expect to add lambo doors to that same car?

The writer has seen pictures that show how the lambo doors swing upward, instead of swinging out. Wiring speakers into such doors would seem to present a real challenge. Could one have custom car audio in a car with such doors? One writer in Califoia wants to know.

Whoop There It Is Another New Mobile Phone Company

It seems to me that you need billions of dollars and many years to build a major infrastructure to provide nation-wide cellular service. Now new mobile phone companies are appearing oveight. Companies like Virgin Mobile, STi Mobile, Boost Mobile, Tracfone, and Net 10 have already claimed millions of subscribers. Right on their heels even more new companies like Helio, Ampd, ESPN Mobile, and Disney Mobile are set to launch in 2006.

Welcome to the era of the Mobile Virtual Network Operator or MVNO. A MVNO buys airtime from a major wireless provider and tus around and sells its own branded phones and services. Theyve been around in the United States for a few years, mostly as pre-paid companies. But now suddenly, theyre hot.

Virgin Mobile is the largest MVNO in the U.S., using the Sprint network and targeting the hip youth market. One of the reasons for the more recent larger scale success is that US mobile carriers are now willing to accommodate MVNOs more aggressively.

Previously MVNOs just remarketed cellular services under their own brand, but now a new wave of what I call Muscle-MNVOs are not only using the major carriers network, but are providing new value add-ons. STi mobile utilizes their inteational calling card network to allow for cheap direct dial inteational calls from their phones while using Sprint as a backbone. Boost Mobile and Ampd Mobile are providing multi-media downloads. ESPN Mobile and Disney mobile will provide exclusive media capabilities as well. Helio, a joint venture between SK Telecom (Korea) and Earthlink.net, will take its already successful Korean muscle phones, muscle media, and muscle services model from Korea and introduce it here in the United States. I think these guys are very interesting.

Why are most of the major US mobile companies finally welcoming MVNOs (because many did not in the past)? It is because much of the main stream plan subscriber base is saturated, but the growth opportunities for MVNOs marketing in the prepaid markets, youth, and specialty areas is huge. The Yankee Group, a technology research firm, projects that mobile virtual network operators will generate $11 billion in service revenue by 2010, up from $1.9 billion last year.

Sprint has been the most aggressive MVNO service provider. Lets hear it for Sprint. I hope they are rewarded highly for their support of competition and creativity in the Mobile Marketplace.

Truetone Ringtones The Ultimate Ringtone Technology

Long gone are the days when incoming calls were indicated only by mechanical bell ringing or annoying warbling electronic sounds. The portable cellular phones of today are essentially mini computers and they are able to utilize a portion of that processing power to generate interesting and attention grabbing ringtones. Cell phone ringtones have come a long way, and mode phones are capable of producing full spectrum digital sound.

Monophonic ringtones were the first ringtone technology to be universally available on cellular phones. While more realistic cell phone audio technologies have recently become available, monophonic ringtones are still popular due to their relative simplicity and wide availability. This article will discuss several ways to load and create your own monophonic ringtones.

Monophonic ringtones are simply sequences of individual notes played successively; only two values are required to completely specify the tone--the frequency (or pitch) and the duration. A number of simple languages have been developed to describe monophonic ringtones. Probably the most popular of the monophonic ringtones description languages is Ringing Tone Text Transfer Language (RTTTL) developed by Nokia.

You can compose your own monophonic ringtones or download them for free or for a fee from the inteet. Regardless of how you obtain your monophonic ringtones, they need to be loaded into your phone. There are three basic ways to load monophonic ringtones, though the exact method will vary by phone. Be sure to consult your phone's documentation for the exact procedures. Some phones allow you to load tones using a data cable or infrared link. Some cell phones can load monophonic ringtones that are sent via Short Message Service (SMS) messaging. A simple but laborious way to load monophonic ringtones is to key them in directly if the phone features some sort of composer service.

Monophonic ringtones are still popular despite their simplicity when compared with some of the other ringtone technologies available. Their ease of use and almost universal availability make monophonic ringtones a popular choice for many cellular phone users.

Ringtones are available for download from a wide variety of online web sites and are typically free or, more usually, available for a small fee.

Why Can t I Get Mobile Internet App To Work On My Mobile Phone

I've just been through the same installation problem with a new customer for the nth time, and it's time to speak out about the cause, which is (you guessed it) the carrier.

Aaron, a good friend in the US, just bought a shiny new Samsung t809 on a plan from T-Mobile, a relatively inteet-savvy US carrier (relatively speaking anyway.) We went through setting up bluepulse, and it went beautifully until he'd installed it on his phone and launched the bluepulse client.

The bluepulse client was unable to access the inteet, and Aaron said the Opera browser he'd installed couldn't get inteet access either. I knew right away what it was: old inteet settings installed on the phone.

People ask, "what's the most common problem you face getting bluepulse installed on people's phones?" They expect you to say "handset compatibility" since getting most apps to run on a wide range of phones is the biggest problem for most developers.

But no, we're miles ahead on that front: bluepulse supports so many handsets (definitely more than 250, likely approaching 300 now) and our web server is smart enough that it can compile a custom version of the client for your phone in most cases.

The biggest problem we have is a problem many mobile app developers never get to face: getting the correct carrier inteet settings installed on the customer's handset.

See, even relatively-savvy carriers like T-Mobile are quite lousy when it comes to customer communications. When some proxy server admin guy makes a change to the inteet gateway somewhere deep in the bowels of your carrier's data centre, how many levels of middle management do you suppose that news needs to filter through before it ever reaches a customer?

The correct answer is: too many levels for the news to ever reach a customer.

Of course, the admin guy is unlikely to change anything that will block access to any of the services installed on the carrier's default 'deck', but any other services you might be accessing from your phone? Someone else's problem.

To employ a desktop inteet analogy: it's as if your ISP requires you to access the inteet via their proxy servers, and won't give you reliable access to any inteet services not featured on their homepage. Very Web circa 1995 - the kind of attitude AOL and CompuServe used to have towards the rest of the inteet. And history tells us AOL only just wizened up in time; CompuServe never did.

The good news is; getting the latest inteet settings installed on your phone is only as painful as ringing your carrier's tech support line, waiting on hold because "you're a valued customer" for long enough to speak to a person, and then asking them; "Please send your latest inteet settings to my phone".

To be absolutely sure, ask them for updated settings for "inteet, MMS, and WAP" since carriers often maintain different settings for each.

You'll get a notification on your phone when the settings arrive a few seconds later, and your phone will ask you if you want to install the new settings. Say 'OK' to them all.

It's usually a good idea to tu your phone off for a second or two and then back on (in the same way it's a good idea to reboot your desktop when you install an update). Some carriers may also ask you to send one MMS to a standard carrier address to verify the settings have been installed correctly.

Once you've done that, you should be ready to rock, jive, even jitterbug a little, with bluepulse. And Opera Mini, and the whole rest of the dang inteet (sheesh!)

Alan Jones is VP, Q&A for http://www.bluepulse.com - a Mobile 2.0 startup. Bluepulse provides a free mobile inteet client for >250 handsets and a free mobile widget developer platform.

Tired of High Fees for Long Distance Calls

The dreaded long distance calls fee regularly haunts individuals of all ages. From chatty Cathys to gabby Garys, everyone seems to have a problem when sky high long distance bills.

If you are tired of paying an astronomical phone bill, look into alteatives that will allow you to bring down your monthly balance without having to end conversations with friends and family members across the country. Before you hang up the phone for good, know there are a variety of options available that will enable you to keep talking without draining your pocket book.

Most individuals have ditched the traditional land line phones in favor of cellular phones. These portable communication devices enable you to take your conversation with you wherever you go. Cellular phone plans have free long distance service, allowing you to call everyone you know from Alaska to Florida without incurring any additional fees.

However, it should be known that most cell phone plans are based on minutes used during peak times and any overage costs may be quite steep. Cell phone companies are constantly having different promotions regarding their coverage areas, talk times, and overage fees. Some companies now features roll over plans that allow your unused minutes to be added to your next months pot. Other companies allow individuals to speak unlimited time in certain areas or call others with the same plan without penalty.

If you wish to keep your traditional home telephone, or land line, consider looking at all your long distance options. There are many plans that, for a flat fee each month, allows you unlimited long distance minutes. These plans are usually more expensive than traditional long distance plans, but can save you a great deal of money if you regularly use excessive long distance minutes.

There are also long distance plans that offered tiered pricing for their minutes. For example, long distance fees will be eight cents a minute until you hit a certain number of minutes, where the cost dips to five cents. Another time tier will lower the price to three cents a minute, assuming you use that many minutes a month.

Another option is to consider completely canceling your long distance program and purchasing a calling card. This will cut down on the amount of long distance calls you make a month, since you will no longer be able to pick up the telephone and directly dial. Furthermore, calling card rates are usually cheaper than traditional long distance plans, and since the cards are pre paid, you know the exact amount you are spending on your long distance. When the monthly phone bill rolls around, there will be no surprises!

Finally, use completely different methods curb your long distance costs. Consider using e-mail or an instant messaging program to communicate with your friends and loved ones. There are several programs that allow you to speak over the inteet using a microphone attached to your computer. Bring back the old fashioned notion of letter writing, since the 37 cent stamp is a great deal cheaper than a long distance bill than can run up hundreds of dollars.

Top 10 Reasons to Use an Email to Phone Service

One of the latest services that is growing steadily is "email to phone", whereby you can receive email messages by voice over the phone, or send voice messages as emails from any phone – cell phone, satellite phone or a regular land line.

When I first heard of this, I wondered, "Why would I want to listen to my email instead of reading it?" But I soon leaed that there are a great many people who can stay in much better touch receiving email messages by phone. Here is a list of the top ten reasons I have complied to use an email to phone service:

Email to phone for busy people on the run

1. You can pick up a message any time, any where, even if you had not planned to. Have you ever had that eerie feeling there was an urgent email waiting for you? Now you can relieve your curiosity, deal with the email and feel 100% assured that landing the sand trap was not a result of email anxiety.

2. Receiving emails by phone is ideal for a busy person on the run. Between the meetings and the restaurant and the cab, a busy person does not always have the time to sit down in front of a computer. But he always has time for his cell phone (You might have noticed this in restaurants, theatre shows, etc.)

3. Inteational travelers have a great use for email to phone services, as they cannot always foretell the availability of a computer or an Inteet connection, nor how much time they might have between flights, meetings, etc. This way, they can keep monitoring all their urgent messages wherever they end up, and delayed flights will no longer mean delayed business.

Email to phone for constant access

4. There are some places where you just can't plug into your computer (or would not want to). On a boat, for instance. With email to phone messaging, you can receive email while you relax on a boat, far from an Inteet connection. And yes, it IS relaxing to know you don't have to fret about a missed email that could bring down the company or cost you your job.

5. On a hunting or fishing trip, you might often find yourself with no Inteet connection. And you certainly won't have a computer with you (I hope!). But you might have cell phone access. And if one of your hunting buddies does drag along his PC from home, you can tell him to get an email to phone service instead.

6. Check in at the cottage, without lugging a computer around. Need I say more. It is indeed relaxing to know you don't have to fret about a missed email that cost you your job. It is NOT relaxing to have to open your eyes to look at a computer monitor.

7. There are also many countries where Inteet access is not reliable, even in parts of well-traveled countries. Who needs Inteet for emails, when you can receive them by phone?

8. Indeed, even in your own country, there might be areas you frequent that are outside of the digital coverage area, where SMS and text messaging are unavailable, such as driving through deserts or mountains. Even with analog coverage or a regular phone line, you can keep monitoring your email.

Special monitoring email by phone

9. Some people need instant alerts, and have to be in touch even while in the lunch room or traveling between meetings. IT support people, who subscribe to a website monitoring service are a perfect example. If a company's website goes down, the CEO won't be pleased if 45 minutes later the IT manager says, "Sorry, I was out to lunch."

10. Some people have the misfortune of having to communicate with high-tech show-offs like me who use email to communicate. For these unfortunate people who might otherwise be forced to adapt to 21st century technology, email to phone messaging rides to the rescue. "Hah! Now I can listen to email messages on my cell phone. And they thought they could force me to adopt mode technology. Hah! I sure fooled them!"

There you have it – my top ten reasons to use email to phone services. Amazing how new ideas can tu even a stone-aged telephone into a technological leap forward. Imagine what they'll do with boulders next.

Used Laptop Computer Your Quick Purchase Inspection Guide Part 2

Used laptop computers are everywhere these days. How can you sift through the mass of available used laptop computers to narrow your search down to the right laptop for you? This is the second part of a series of articles designed to give you a few suggestions for your next purchase.

Assuming you've done the visual inspection mentioned in part one, you're ready to power up the laptop and do some more digging.

Laptop Operating System

Does the laptop you're looking at come with an operating system? If not, it could be difficult for you to fully test the operation of the laptop. One good alteative to a built in operating system is to download and bu a copy of Knoppix. Knoppix is a linux operating system that runs off the CD-ROM drive instead of the hard drive. This allows you to test the laptop even if it doesn't have an operating system installed. You can find Knoppix at www.knoppix.com

Quick Power Up Inspection

Power up the laptop if it already isn't on. Make sure to open the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive that comes with the laptop. Look for USB ports and make sure they are in good repair. Locate the vent for the CPU fan (if it has one most do) and listen to the sound it makes. If you hear any whining or grinding sounds, beware. This may be an indication that the CPU inside has not been getting proper cooling which can definitely lead to problems down the road like random crashes, shut downs, etc...

Examine the LCD Screen

Chances are, you're going to be staring at that screen an awful lot. Make sure the colors are stable and that there are no parts of the LCD screen that are washed out or discolored. Replacing an LCD screen is expensive. Better to find a problem with it before you buy it then afterwards.

Is the LCD screen bright enough for your needs? Some used laptops will have LCD screens that are too dim to be practical. Keep in mind that older laptops will often not be very bright in direct sunlight. They should all be bright in normal lighting conditions however.

Virus and Your Mobile Phone

This is not an uncommon situation when you have heard from somebody that his mobile phone has been infected with virus. Symbian operating system is the favorite operating system of all major companies. (Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola are few examples). The mobile viruses generally infect the system files of the mobile, resulting into the slow performance of mobile. Sometimes it even hangs up the mobile phone.

The virus in mobile may result into un-necessary sending of messages from the device to all numbers present in the phonebook and sometimes it even transfer files to nearer mobiles with help of bluetooth technology.

Steps to be taken to prevent virus attack on the mobile.
We should keep the bluetooth switched off, when not in use.
We should not open messages from any unknown person.
We should not install or download any software, games or ring tones from any unauthorized place or website.
We should have a good anti virus installed on our mobile.

But most of the mobiles which are not symbian based or which are not 3G are not infected with viruses. Some of famous mobile viruses are Cabir, Comwar and skulls.

A lot of research has to be done in this field, to get a perfect solution.

Used Laptops Be Careful With Your Purchase

Used laptops come in two varieties: used and refurbished.

What Are Used Laptops?

Used laptops are those that have been used by a consumer for any length of time and then resold. Even if computers are only one day old, stores cannot sell them as new laptops, they become used laptops.

What Are Refurbished Laptops?

A refurbished laptop is a computer that has been used anywhere from 1 to 90 days, and then retued to the store or manufacturer who then resells it, or repairs and replaces any needed parts in order to sell it. Some of these refurbished computers may be just as good as new computers, but you can get them at a much lower price.

What To Look For When Buying Used:

1. Condition

The first thing that you should look at is the used computers condition. It has been recommended to stay away from laptops that are over 3 years old. The system will be outdated and may not be able to run some of the software and programs that are currently available. You may even want to stick to laptops that are less than 18 months old. Refurbished laptops do not have some of these conces because they are newer and have been repaired and tuned up.

2. Features

The features offered on used laptops are the next important factor you should take under consideration. If you need speed, you need to keep in mind that used laptops run slower than desktops with the same processing systems. Do not buy used laptops with less than 128 MB of memory; it may not be able to run many of the applications and programs that are standard in todays computers. You can get used laptops that are powered by anywhere from 20 GB to 80 GB depending on your processing and computing needs. The screen size, definition, and resolution are other important issues in laptops. Make sure that the laptop you are looking at has the capabilities to do what you need it to do media and entertainment-wise.

3. Portability

Portability of laptops is also an important issue. Laptops are getting thinner and lighter every day. Does the laptop you are looking at weigh a lot? Make sure you add in the weight of the case and any other accessories you will be carrying.

Remember:

When buying used laptops from a private seller or an acquaintance, be careful. Have the used laptops checked out thoroughly by a neutral party or professional. Every good bargain shopper knows that you can find deals by shopping for pre-owned items. Laptop computers are no exception. Educate yourself on your wants and needs and you will get what you want.

With Bluetooth Quality is Number One

Bluetoothone of the hottest, fastest-growing communications technologies on the market todayis a short-range system that enables mobile phones, handheld devices and computers to wirelessly interconnect. Users can completely coordinate all of their mobile and fixed computer devices while eliminating the cables that usually connect them.

This innovative system has been around for years in the form of wireless headsets, speakerphones, earpieces and more. All are designed to maintain a quality connection while giving users the true mobility and freedom they seek.

Despite the engineering wizardry Bluetooth brings, rare flaws may occur with these products. Thats why consumers need to ensure theyre purchasing Bluetooth accessories from a reputable company that provides strict testing of all of its products before offering them for sale.

The sale of underperforming Bluetooth devices is a slowly growing issue, says Jennifer Bean, IS Director of eCommerce for eAccess, the parent company of Treo-Gear.com, an online retailer of Treo devices and Treo accessories. Thats why we quality check every Bluetooth-enabled device thats on our site before we will sell it.

Bluetooth technology is globally available, applies to a wide range of devices, is easy to use, features secure connections and is a globally accepted specification. The built-in security, low power consumption, small size and low cost of the chipset solution make it functional for the tiniest of devices, and thus, minimizes the likelihood of technical problems with Bluetooth accessories.

Still, according to Bean, Treo-Gear.com wants to assure the highest quality for its customers. Therefore, the companys rigorous testing methods include checking for defects and usability issues. But they also test for compatibility, fit, finish, ease of use and quality.

If I cant provide customers with a quality product, I wont carry it period, says Bean.

Treo-Gear.com also tests all Treo Bluetooth accessories to ensure that they meet compatibility and all other specifications. Physical testing is performed on every accessoryand every device that goes with it.

We are very selective with the Bluetooth accessories that we choose to carry, says Bean. We want to make sure that we only provide the best Bluetooth and Treo accessories for our customers.

Watching HDTV on your Laptop

Do you have a small laptop with a beautiful LCD display? Active matrix is now the standard for laptops and, as a result, the quality of images on most laptops is comparable to most desktops.

Why should you let your TV and your desktop have all of the fun with high-definition programming? High-definition (HD) programming allows you to view movies and television as they were meant to be viewed. Almost all TV viewers who have the opportunity to view HD broadcasts say they strongly prefer them to standard digital and analog broadcasts. Many TV's now come with HD tuners standard and it is very easy to find HD tuners for PC's. Unfortunately these have only been available as PCI cards traditionally. PCI cards require you to open your computer and install the card on the motherboard - this is not an option for laptops.

Take advantage of USB 2.0 to watch HD programming Now you can use your USB 2.0 port, which comes standard on virtually every laptop manufactured today, to watch HD programming. Note that USB 1.1 is much to slow to stream video without a lot of choppiness. This technology comes from Korea and has been available in Korea for about two years - now various manufacturers are embracing the technology and products are starting to appear on the American market which will allow you to stream HDTV to your laptop.

DVR-like attributes will be coming Along with the ability to stream HDTV to your laptop comes the ability to record programming to be viewed at a later date. This technology, commonly referred to as digital video recording or simply Tivo-ing, offers you the ability to record HD programming for playback. The USB HDTV adapters available in the US right now do feature time-shift technology, but the ability to download the programming information will require you to find a third-party service. Fortunately these are popping up all over the place to fill the pending demand.

Your Next Virus Is Just A Phone Call Away

Mobile Phones May Be The Next Target

I don't know how often you change mobile phones. If you are like me, I always have to get my hands on the latest and greatest the moment it's available. And each time, I'm amazed by the technological advancements and services they have to offer.

Mobile Phone Viruses
--------------------

Most of the newer phones are more like a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) than a phone, offering contact management, web browsers, downloadable games, cameras and much more. I myself have downloaded a few games to my new phone. Today's mobile phones run operating system's similar to those used by your PDA or home computer, but on a smaller scale. It is only a matter of time before hackers and developers discover ways to wreak havoc on these devices by creating malicious code similar to a standard virus your computer can contract.

What could be the result? The possibilities are limitless. With one mobile phone virus attack on your wireless phone you could lose all your contact information, the phone could be directed to dial random numbers (even expensive inteational numbers), be used to relay SPAM, or worse, replicate a virus by sending itself to all of your contacts.

Cell Phone Viruses
------------------

The release of cell phone viruses is rooted in some of the most common applications we've come to use and appreciate. Have you ever sent someone a text message from your mobile phone? I use it quite often to communicate with close friends and relatives. If you think about it, a text message is no different than an email - including how simple and pervasive SPAM has become on your computer. On mobile phones, programmers and hackers are discovering a great way to send unsolicited e-mails or messages.

For instance, if your mobile phone number is 555-1000, chances are that your number is just one of a large block of mobile numbers such as 555-1001, 1002, 1003, and so on. So if a spammer picks a random start point within a block of numbers, it would be easy to write a small program that would send the same SPAM message to all mobile numbers within that block. On top of this, many mobile services make you responsible for paying for the text messages. Not only will you become annoyed by unsolicited messages, you could be paying for them as well.

Cell Phone Security
-------------------

Have you ever received an unsolicited text message on your mobile phone - one not from your phone service provider? I have at least once in the recent months. I received a text message from an anonymous source that contained information about some sort of health product. Not only did it contain a brief sales pitch, it also had a web link attached to it. How they got my mobile phone number is beyond me.

But the bigger and more threatening reality the episode posed was in exposing the potential for viruses, worms, backdoors, and unsolicited content to reach our mobile phones.

Mobile Phone Security
---------------------

So what can we do about this? As far as text messages are conceed, some mobile phones give you the option to define an approved list of numbers. This way you can only receive messages from people or organizations you know.

Viruses and malicious code are an entirely different subject. I've not seen this happen in the wild yet, but I can tell you it's only a matter of time. The manufacturers of mobile phones and the operating systems they run will need to take some responsibility for making sure their product are secure.

Given the fact that nothing is 100% secure, you can bet that mobile phone-attacking viruses will become a reality. Who knows, the Anti-Virus software developers may have a whole new market.

What is the Difference Between Satellite Phone and Cellular Phone

Satellite phone and Cellular phones are wireless devices. They almost look alike. But the way they work is totally different. Cellular phones working method is cell based. That is why they are called cellular phones. The whole network area is divided into small areas. And in each area an antenna is installed. These are also called towers. When a cellular phone is moving, it keeps entering from one cell to another. When it crosses the border of one cell, the phone sends a signal to the MTSO (Mobile Telephone Switching Office). With the help of control channel the database of the MTSO relocates the phone in a new cell or area. The MTSO and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) coordinate to handle cellular calls.

But in the contrary Satellite phones use Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites. With the tuing on of the satellite phone a signal goes up to the any number of satellites of a group with whom the phone is registered. When a person makes a call from the handset, a signal goes to the near by orbiting satellite. The satellite connects to the gateway or ground station. Then the gateway takes the call to the destination. The call can be directed to the landline, cellular phone or PSTN. Any of the landlines, cell phone or PSTN can also call a satellite phone. In the case of satellite phones the gateway takes care of calls not cells as in the case of cellular phones. If a satellite phone calls another satellite phone, the call reaches a ground station through a satellite. Then it goes up to the air to a satellite and then the call reaches the destination phone. So the gateway processes the switching of calls not the satellite.

Understand RTTL Ring Tone Transfer Language

You can easily create your own customized free mobile ringtones with the help of RTTL Ring tone transfer language. As the name suggests, it is a simple text based language that enables you to create ringtones notes that you can upload into your mobile phones via various uploading techniques. It is quite easy to lea and use.

RTTL string is divided into three sections that are separated by colons:

For example: fifth:d=4,o=5,b=63:8P,8G5,8G5,8G5,2D#5

In the above case which is the Beethovens fifth example, the first section (fifth) is known as RTTL melody. The second section (d=4,o=5,b=63) defines the default value of the music files. The third section (8P,8G5,8G5,8G5,2D#5) defines the RTTL melody.

The first section (fifth) will always have a defined structure of no more than 10 characters. The second section is bit complex as it describes the melody default that is divided into three values, namely duration, octave and beat. RTTL handlers these default values by defining each category with a single character and then assigns a value to that character. In the above example (d=4,o=5,b=63), duration is defined by letter d, octave by letter o and beat with the letter b. The above example in lay terms could be said that the default value of the melody is any note played shall have duration of quarter note unless specified, any note identified will be played in the fifth octave and the tempo for this melody will be 63 beats per minute.

Duration
Duration can be referred as a length of musical sound or can be indicated as a length of time like play this note for a second or so.

Octave
Octave is the region that a scale occupies in a musical space. It could also be termed as the interval between one musical note and another with half or double frequency.

Beat
Beat is the pulse on the beat level, or can be said as basic time unit on a piece, when you tap your
foot to music, each tap is a beat. Musically termed, it is measured on a per-minute basis. If a melody is assigned to 60 beats per minute, that means that melody will get one beat per second.

Why Do We Like Ring Tones

My point is that we are increasingly getting familiar with the use of a lot of interesting and sophisticated gadgets and their power of transforming our lives for the better!

A case in point is that of mobile phones and ring tones. When we think of ring tones, the first thing that comes to mind is the attitude of the owner of the mobile phone handsets. Actually, it is a fact that the ring tone of mobile phone says a lot about the owner of the handsets. We can get a general idea about his social standing, his interests in music and his attitude towards life from the ring tone that he uses in his handsets. Most of us are very much familiar with ring tones.but let me clarify.

Ring tones are the sounds that cellular phone handsets make to indicate an incoming call. With new developments taking place everyday on the technology front, the quality of sound coming out from mobiles is getting better and better! The latest mobile phone handsets from established retailers in the industry are equipped with advanced Bluetooth and 3G technologies that enable the mobile phone users to give vent to their widest fantasies and ideas. They can for example use the name of their friends as ring tones! The jouey has been a long one, since the early days of use of monophonic ring tones. As of now, different varieties of ring tones are commonly available in the mobility marketplace, which are supported by a number of handset manufacturers and network carriers. The latest versions of ring tones that are being played in mobiles all across the globe include polyphonic ring tones, true tones, voice tones, real tones, wake up name tones and buddy name tones.

Mobile phone handsets are also getting sophisticated by the day; almost all handsets worth their brand names are capable of downloading the latest tunes in polyphonic ring tones as well as full music ring tones. With attractive tariff options from leading network carriers, it has become very easy to possess one of the latest models of mobile phones and download particular ring tones, according to specific likings. You can easily download a multitude of ring tones to your handsets, depending on your personal tastes and preferences. However, there is a small snag and you have to ensure that the ring tone that you are planning to download is compatible with your mobile phones and the network plans that you are subscribing to. But that is a minor problem compared to usability of ring tones and their significance in our day to day lives. The reverberation of a catchy ring tone is enough to tu heads in a room full of people. Apart from this snob value attributed to ring tones, we also like to download different types of ring tones for a number of other reasons.

Ring tones have their own uses. For instance, say you are in a crowded place and a phone starts ringing. If you have your own personalized ring tone, it becomes easier for you to know whether or not the sound is emanating from your phone. Ring tones are also a reflection of your personality. You tend to download the ring tones that appeal to your aesthetic sensibilities and moods; it one of the easiest way to add an individual touch to your mobiles. Use of such personalized ring tones sets you apart from others and enables you to maintain your individuality, no matter wherever you are. They are truly a cool and a fun way to personalize your phones! You can show the world your true colors and use the sound of an animal, a siren, a bell, or a unique melody as your ring tone! Other forms of custom ring tones are also available that range from music that you have composed to recorded versions of your own voice. You can also record the sound of names and play the same as the ring tones of your mobiles. With most handsets being configured for WAP, it has become very easy to download these true tone ring tones to your mobile phone handsets.

But these are not the only reasons why we like ring tones. We also like them for their innovativeness. We like to download the latest in ring tones to our handsets to remain at the forefront of technology usage. In the current scenario, technology has become one of the most important aspects of life and we want to stay abreast with the latest that the telecommunications industry has to offer! Most of us like to acquire the best of handsets that are capable of supporting the latest in ring tones. The melodious sounds that emanate from our handsets can make an impression on the people we meet during the course of the day! Mobile technology has progressed to such an extent that we can now download celebrity voices as our ring tones. We can also listen to classical songs of a bygone era as well as the most recent musical hits of our times, while we are receiving our calls.

It seems that technology in the mobile telephony sector has finally caught up with the needs and requirements of our daily life. There is an answer to all our needs and a ring tone for all occasions. With their unique features and versatility in the services that they provide, a wide variety of ring tones have become an integral part of every mobile phone handset, across different parts of the world.

Tips On How To Choose A Cell Phone

Advances are constantly being made in the field of cell phone technology, which means that there are always newer cell phone models coming out on the market with more and more advanced features. So here are some tips on how to choose the cell phone that will best fit your needs.

1. The first thing to do is to choose the cell phone provider first, then get the cell phone. After all, the cell phone will only be as good as the network it is connected to. In order to make the best decision about which cell phone provider will work best in your area, you can conduct your own informal survey of family and friends to find out what experiences they are having with various cell phone providers. Then choose the one that seems to have the best local record.

2. Now that you have your cell phone provider in mind, it's a good idea to actually visit their store and physically inspect all of the phones that they have available. This is important because just seeing a picture of a cell phone will not tell you much about how it actually works. But if you have a chance to actually hold each cell phone in your hand and see how easy it is to use, you can quickly narrow down your choices to those that will seem to work best for you and the way you use your cell phone.

3. One of the most important features of the cell phone is the display, and so you need to make sure that any cell phone you buy has a display that is easily readable in both dimly lit and bright lighting conditions. Again, this is usually best determined by physically examining it in the cell phone store.

4. You'll find that there is a wide range and diversity of features from one cell phone to another, so look for the features that are most important to you and will be most often used, such as a speakerphone for hands-free use.

5. In order to save money and get the best cell phone deal, be sure to ask about any special promotions or offers that are being run by the cell phone companies at this time. Sometimes you won't know about these specials if you don't specifically ask for them, but they can often save you lots of money when you buy your cell phone. Quite often, cell phone providers will run specials online that may not be available off line, so be sure that you look for inteet specials whenever you shop too.

6. Be sure that you understand all retu policies regarding any phone that you are considering just in case you may need to retu it, as some consumers have been hit with hefty restocking and cancellation fees when they decided to retu their phone. So just be sure that you are fully aware of the cell phone provider's retu policy on that particular phone before you buy it.

If you use these tips and suggestions when shopping for a cell phone, you should be able to find the one that will fit you best and save money at the same time.

Why Bollywood Ringtones Are The In Thing

The pull of popular culture is what is driving the current worldwide popularity of mobile phones. Owning a cool phone is considered the in thing and makes people feel that they belong. Popular culture is also the reason for the current popularity of certain fringe cultural outlets like world cinema or world music. It is not surprising that these two worlds phones and world cinema would meet and come up with a surprisingly new and fresh fad. Bollywood ringtones on your mobile phone.

For those who are as yet unfamiliar with the term, Bollywood is a term that has been given to the Hindi-language film industry in India. The term Bollywood is a mix of the names Bombay (which is the old name of Mumbai) and Hollywood the acknowledged center of the American film industry. The Indian film industry is one of the most robust in the world. It is considered as one of the most prolific in terms of the number of films released each year. It is also the number one when it comes to the total number of ticket sales.

The most unique (or most peculiar, depending on your personal taste) feature of Bollywood movies are the musical numbers incorporated into almost all movie offerings. This does not necessarily mean that Bollywood movies are all musicals. It is just that by tradition, a movie is not considered complete without a song and dance number. And unlike the typical musical, these numbers contain plot points and action that are not found in US-style musical. For most Indian moviegoers a movie that does not contain at least one song and dance number is considered incomplete and not worth the price of the ticket. Traditional Indian dance and music forms heavily influence these song and dance numbers. Even pop or mode songs and dances are injected with distinctively Indian elements that make them quite unique.

It is these unique Bollywood songs (also known as filmi music) that are gaining a renewed popularity as ringtones for mobile phones. There may be two major reasons for the growing popularity of Bollywood ringtones. First, Indian cinema is gaining a new level of inteational popularity in other countries. Film lovers are discovering that Bollywood films have merits that makes them so compelling to watch. Lovers of kitsch, on the other hand, find Bollywood movies fantastical enough that it captures their attention.

The second reason for the popularity may also be attributable to it being such a peculiar yet cheeky way of having a ringtone. A bollywood ringtone on a persons phone may paint a picture of that person as a lover of film and / or a person who has a sense of humor and loves to bring something unusual to his phone.

Customizing your mobile phones ringtone with a Bollywood ringtone shows that you are a person that is both a lover of culture but not afraid to poke a little fun at yourself. These qualities may be the reason that Bollywood ringtones are becoming such a popular choice among people.

Want To Live A Day Without A Cell Phone

Have you ever imagined a day without a cell phone? Terrible isnt it? It seems like you are a hermit on an island: Total alienation from the communications world.

When you think of a cell phone you may start to think of how much of connivance they are for everyone. This would be true for the most part but there are some people out there that may think that it is more of a nascence than connivance to them. If you think about it the cell phone could be a life saver at times as well as a way for you to keep in touch with the people that care about that are out and about on the highways and airways all the time.

There are many people that have to travel all the time and they carry a cell phone so that they are able to keep in touch with their family all the time. That is one way that could help them still feel like they are part of the family when they are away all the time. For the ones that travel all the time and they are in an area that is going to receive some bad weather they will be able to let their family members know where they are and that they are alright. You know when you are out in another state your family members are going to be keeping an eye on the TV so they can keep track of the weather in the area that you are going to be in.

Another good thing about some of the cell phones that are out there now days is that you are able to take some pictures and share them with your friends and family members. This is a great feature of the cell phones that will help you be able to send and receive some pictures that interest you and that will also get the interest of you spouse. If could be a picture of yourself or of an interesting area that you are in at the time. You are even going to be able to receive a couple of pictures of your family members that you miss when you are out on the road all the time. This is going to be especially helpful when you may have some small children that could be taking their first step or even crawling for the first time.

In conclusion, cell phones are something that will stay with us for a long time. Make full use of it and have fun!

What s New with Cellphone Cameras

Mobile telephones have progressed a long way from their humble beginnings as the analog bricks of the 80's as technology has offered increasingly more complex features and options. Once no more than just a phone, now the average new cellphone has more on-board processing power than the combined computing power used to land men on the moon. Miniaturization, mode programming, and constantly improving technology driven on by a hungry market means that the cellphones of today are not just a phone, or even an organizer, but instead, they are a centralized multimedia platform. They offer many of the same advanced features as a PDA, like Bluetooth, flash card compatibility, radio, and fully featured integrated digital cameras. Much like the cameras found on PDAs, the digital photography offered by multimedia phones is not brilliant, but rather better suited to casual photography of friends at opportune moments. The advantage of having an integrated cell-camera is that as a phone is something that people tend to always carry with them, they will always have a camera handy.

If high quality digital photography is what you're after, then you're better off buying a mobile phone and camera separately. While camera technology is getting there for things like PDAs and mobiles, the range of advanced options for a cell phone camera don't even translate to the standard set of features for a basic digital camera. A comparison of some prominent models on the market today follows, giving consideration to the cost, feature set, and level of quality offered by each device.

The Palm Treo 650 Smartphone runs the Palm OS version 5.4 on a 312MHz Intel CPU. It has 23MB of user memory available, expandable with the addition of either an SD or MMC flash cards. The display is a 320x320 pixel 16-bit color TFT, and it features a 0.3MP digital camera, capable of taking photos or capturing video. Feature wise, it's impressive, but doesn't weigh up against similar products for the price. The camera in particular is under-powered for the amount of processing behind it. A Smartphone 650 will set you back about $550.

The Sony Ericsson W800i has 32MB of user memory, and comes free with a 512MB Memory Stick Pro flash card. Featuring a display resolution of 176x220 pixels, and a 2 MP digital camera, it is fairly light on the features, and would be best described as a basic high-end mobile phone. The 2MP digital camera goes some way towards justifying the cost, but it doesn't compare to buying a digital camera separately. The W800i will set you back around $480.

The Nokia 7610 is a competitive entry on this list, featuring a fairly rich feature set by comparison to the other examples. However, it has only 8MB on-board memory, expandable via a MultiMediaCard flash card. It comes with a free 64MB MMC, with a 176x208 display in 16-bit color. The 1MP digital camera supports a very wide range of image formats, as well as two modes of video in low or medium resolution. It supports multiple video formats, has a 4x digital zoom. The Bluetooth enabled system itself has a web browser and email client. The main problems with this phone are the relatively short lived battery, and the small amount of on-board memory. But at just $310, the feature set gives this phone serious bang for the buck.

If we compare each of these to a normal digital camera, it is easy to see why they are not a good choice if you intend to focus on photography. $350 gets you a Canon SD500 7.1 MP digital camera. It features 3x optical zoom, along with 4x digital zoom, Television AV/out port, proper strobe flash with red-eye reduction, heavily customizable setup, optional automatic lighting conditions compensation, a tripod mount point, full motion video recorded at effective resolution of 0.3MP. It has an SD card slot, and a host of other features too numerous to name. This is not an elite, professional grade camera, however it outperforms every camera phone listed by at least 3:1. and at a lower cost too.

Cellphones have evolved to a point where they more closely resemble a laptop than anything else, combining a truly impressive range of multimedia technologies into one tiny device. Displays are improving rapidly, as is the level of functionality offered by mode mobile phones. As they become more numerous, these features will become increasingly useful as vast networks of people, all armed with such versatile devices will begin to take shape. As of now, however, they are fairly unfocused in their capabilities, offering a very wide range of features, but not delivering any one of them so well as to replace the technology from which the features first came from. While camera cellphones can have their uses, they still do not lend themselves well to high quality photography. For casual use with friends, or general purpose use, a camera phone can be a lot of fun, and while it combines a lot of devices into one convenient package, it doesn't deliver the a high level of quality.

Valuable Cellular Accessory Items

Accessories for a cell phone, for example the Motorola Razr V3 which launched in autumn 2004, has a built-in accessory: the digital camera with zoom, but we're not talking here about this really nice feature.

We're going to look at separately available and important accessories such as a headset, a charger, and a battery.

Headset

A headset is a very useful accessory because it is the safest way to drive a car and talk on the phone at the same time. It sure might improve your awareness and reaction time compared to holding the phone to your head.

There are wired simple earbud headsets to plug into the jack of your phone w/without send-end key for around $20 -- and there are various enhanced sets with Bluetooth wireless technology for around $75.

Charger

You've got desktop chargers and car chargers.

The first is clear. It's used at home or in the office. The car charger is really convenient when you are out on the road. While you drive, your phone get charged so you always have a phone with sufficient power to use after driving.

Available are car chargers to plug into your car's cigarette lighter, equipped with overload prevention circuit to protect your Razr V3 and really affordable. Ranging from less than $10 and up to $25.

Battery

A slim lithium ion battery comes with the phone.

To buy a spare you can choose the SNN5696B from Motorola priced around $40. Up to 430 minutes of talk time, and up to 290 hours of standby time, in most ideal circumstances.

Or you may choose a compatible one for a much lesser price: around $15, but talk time and standby time may also be substantially less.

Consider that battery performance also depends on network configuration, signal strength, operating temperature, features selected, and voice, data and other application usage pattes.

Generally speaking, if you're a heavy user you might go for the genuine brand accessories, but when you're not, you might choose the often (much)lower priced universal and compatible brand cell phone accessories.

Sybren B manages various informative cell phone webpages like http://www.sb-systems.com and often looking for opportunities for its visitors, such as discounted cell phone accessories.

TV History The Popularity of TV Theme Ringtones

One of the reasons why personalized ringtones are enjoying such an immense popularity all over the world is because of the ability to actually bring your personality to your phone. With personalized ringtones you can immediately show to other people what kind of person you are the moment they hear your ringtone. If you are the goofy type of person then youd have one of those funny songs, a hilarious joke or a funny sound effect as your ring tone. If you are the romantic type then love songs would usually be your ringtone. The adventurous people may select rock or techno music as their ringtones. Of course, anime fans will definitely get anime theme songs as their ringtones.

One of the more popular ringtone types that most mobile users prefer to use are ringtones based on TV themes. Choosing tv theme ringtones present a different side of a persons personality one that loves or is a fan of nostalgia.

Why would nostalgia be associated with TV themes anyway? It is simple, really. We are a generation that has grown up with the television set as a constant companion of our lives. It is an ubiquitous part of any household and it is also a regular source for free entertainment. We have practically grown up with the television blaring its programs in our households and as years progress, there are TV shows that we have come to associate with either a certain aspect of our life or particular point in our growing up years. This is attitude is actually not strange but a very normal kind of behaviour, in fact just observe a group of friends who grew up during a particular era the 70s or the 80s for example and you will notice that their conversations would usually drift towards what they would usually watch on TV. The more obscure or least popular the show the better because it helps transport them to that time when they were still care-free children.

The allure of TV theme ringtones is thus a very understandable phenomena. It not only brings us pleasant memories of the past or of our childhood it also gives people who have common likes or grew up at the same time an anchor towards establishing a conversation. This is quite easy to prove. Just put a ringtone of a TV show that you grew up with, lets say the classic A Team TV theme or the funky Knight Rider theme, on your mobile phone. Now let it ring in a crowd and you will notice that people who are same age as you are would whip their heads and look in your general direction trying to trace who owns the ringtone. If you are lucky enough someone may even approach you and strike up a conversation! But of course reminiscing about the good old times is best done among friends. It is during this time that the conversation runs wild. Discussions about their favourite theme songs will usually mutate to talk about their favourite movies during that time, even their favourite snacks! Truly, nostalgia is a great way of touching base with friends.

What is SMS

What is SMS?

SMS, also known as short messaging service, is the rage in Europe and parts of Asia. Gradually SMS is gaining momentum in the US as a low cost messaging solution. SMS is defined as text messages, up to 160 characters in length, sent to mobile phones. In recent months SMS has become synonymous with any text message sent to a cell phone.

Benefits to SMS

SMS is a convenient, cost effective alteative to voice messaging. SMS popularity has grown as a result of:

1.) Cost - SMS is less expensive then the airtime used for voice calls or web access.

2.) Non-intrusive - messages are received in a discrete fashion and do not interrupt an individual if they are in the middle of a meeting

3.) Integration Capabilities - many software programs can be set up to send text alerts to mobile phones when urgent conditions exist.

Short Messaging Explained

Short messages can originate from other phones, personal computers or the Inteet. Consumers and businesses alike use SMS for remote communication, allowing for staff to be mobile and stay in touch with those who matter.

Who Offers SMS?

Today nearly all the cellular carriers provide some level of SMS or text messaging capabilities. Cost and features vary, with carriers offering a variety of packages to suit individual or business needs. Typically there are three options that carriers provide:

1.) Free of Charge - text messaging is included as part of a select plan.

2.) Per Message Fee - users are charged per message.

3.) Monthly Fee - a set monthly fee includes a specified number of text messages.

How Do You Send SMS Messages?

Messages can be sent a variety of ways, depending on the service provider that you use.

SMS Software

The most popular way to send text messages is using software. When using software there is no cost associated with the sending of messages. Depending on the carrier that you are sending to messages can be sent any number of ways. Different carriers use different standards or protocols, the common protocols supported by most software is: via modem (TAP, UCP), the Inteet ((SNPP, WCTP) and via email (SMTP). Software is flexible and often allows for group or scheduled messaging. Another benefit to software is the ability to automate processes, sending SMS alerts when specific conditions exist often without the need for human interaction.

Public SMS Gateway

Public gateways are often referred to as SMSC or SMS centers. The centers typically run a robust software application (like advanced versions of those mentioned above) and subscribe to a large database that allows for the messages to be routed to the appropriate carriers using the appropriate settings. When using an SMSC the sender incurs a per message charge. Cost will vary depending on the SMSC used to send the message but its not uncommon for it to cost .05 per message.

Phone to Phone

Many of the new mobile phones and those on the GSM network allow for messages to be sent from phone to phone. The keypads are rudimentary and not conducive for long messages but are effective when time is an issue and a concise message is needed.

Win for everyone

SMS messaging has been helpful to consumers and carriers, as the cost of sending and delivering SMS messages is relatively low. SMS messages have proven to be a lucrative revenue stream for struggling telecom providers.

The Future of SMS

SMS will continue to grow as part of the telecom industry. As software processes become more complex users will exploit text messaging capabilities in order to allow for additional mobility in the workplace.

Will You be Watching the World Cup on Your Mobile Phone

World Cup 2006 is almost upon us and the worldwide audience is set to smash all records. But the days of cramming around the television in the front room or in the local pub are diminished if not yet gone. With increased technological developments, football fans will be able to utilise new technology to follow their national teams fortunes.

The increasing sophistication of the web means that live games will be shown on sites such as the BBC this summer. Streaming video content to your desktop or laptop is nothing new but the marketers recognise the value of the big occasion and with all games being available for live video download the 2006 World Cup will be the biggest litmus test that this technology has had to date. The availability of live streams offers great flexibility to users who are at work, university, home working and so on to watch and enjoy the games whether legitimately or not.

Similarly recent developments in mobile phones mean that we can now watch mobile content on mobile devices such as phones. Having the World Cup on your mobile phone means that you need not miss any of the action and can watch games on the move wherever you are. Just watch out for oncoming traffic. The sophistication of the latest mobile phones include inteet connectivity and video content streaming allowing us to enjoy the footy on the bus or the train in a way that we have never been able to before.

Despite the popularity and frequent changes to our mobile phones, handsets with video streaming capability are still not in the majority. Sony Ericsson has led the way with video phones in recent years and Sony Ericsson models now have the capability as a standard handset feature. If you plan on watching the World Cup on the move the time is upon you to renew your phone so hurry up and call your network for an upgrade or visit one of the mobile phone stores to get your hands (and eyes) on the World Cup this year.

Why A Prepaid Cell Phone Plan Might Be The Way To Go

Is a prepaid cell phone plan right for you in terms of usability and a price I can afford? I am finding that shopping for a cell phone is becoming more and more difficult. I see, literally, hundreds of phone designs to choose from and there are more providers than I can believe that I have to research. The worst part is that you have to plan in advance to now what type of contract you want. However, you can always go the way of the prepaid cell phone plan.

If for some reason you have waited this long and are now new to the cell phone game, a prepaid cell phone plan may be the best route for you to go. A prepaid cell phone plan comes with no long term commitments and you generally pay only for what you use. There is significantly less paperwork involved and you will not have to endure a credit check or anything like that. As cell phones go, it is really the only thing anywhere near a easy over the counter transaction.

Another good situation for getting a prepaid cell phone plan is for a family member who will only use it as a security measure. An elderly relative may be avoiding the technology of cell phones, but having one around for emergencies might be something you can persuade them to do. If that is what the phone is going to be used for and will likely be sitting in a drawer or on a shelf most of its life, then there is no reason to pay a monthly fee when you can just get a prepaid cell phone plan and pay in advance as a just in case measure.

A prepaid cell phone plan is not a cure all, though. If you are a person who will be using your phone for hours on end every week, then a contract is still likely going to be the most cost effective cell phone plan you can get. However, as a first plan while you are sorting through all of the providers out there, you can still benefit from a prepaid cell phone plan. That way you can try a phone or a service for a couple of months to see if you like it before you commit long term to it.

Finding the right cell phone and cell phone service provider can be a daunting task, especially if you have never done it before. There are so many plans and phone out there that it can get very confusing. However, you can consider a prepaid cell phone plan as a way to buy yourself some time to look through monthly plans. A prepaid cell phone plan will allow you to pay up front so that you dont have worry about extra fees. While you are working through a month or two of that you can take your time to find the right cell phone contract for you. You should also consider a prepaid cell phone for elderly relatives or those who may need it only in emergency. No matter the reason, there are really no drawbacks prepaid cell phones.

Understanding Cell Phone Minutes

Understanding how your cellular minutes work is one of the most confusing and least understood aspects of any wireless communications plan. It's not surprising that this lack of understanding is what leads to shockingly high phone bill surprises. So if you want to prevent getting one it's important to have a basic understanding of how they work.

You basic cell phone plans come with a monthly allotment of anytime minutes, and usually free or night and/or weekend minutes. When you make a call the thing to understand is the phone company is going to use the most expensive minutes first. For example let's say your plan has 200 minutes per month. During the first week of the month all of your calls are made during the day using what are known as peak minutes. You make 120 minutes worth of calls. For the remainder of the month you make 200 minutes worth of calls but they are all at night during the time when your carrier offers free calling. You've used 320 minutes worth of calling time for the month. However to your wireless provider you used 200 of your anytime minutes, and they gave you 120 minutes of free night time calling. Many people make the assumption they only used 120 minutes of calling time and have 80 minutes left unused, which is incorrect. This incorrect assumption can compound itself if the customers has a rollover plan and assumes 80 minutes are going into the bank. For this calling period however there will be no overage charges.

Lets look at another example. During the first three weeks of the month you make 200 minutes worth of calls at night during the free calling period. The the last week in the month you make 120 minutes of calls during the day or peak hours. You made 320 minutes worth of calls but the 200 were at night and were free and the 120 is less than the 200 so there will be no overage charges right? Well if you thought like that you'll be pretty surprised with the overage charges that came on your next bill. Your wireless provider used your 200 anytime minutes during the first three weeks when you were calling at night. So when you made the 120 minutes of calls the last week of the month they were all peak overage minutes. Overage minutes are always billed at higher cost than regular minutes which makes the problem worse.

The key point to understand is the wireless provider is always going to use the most expensive minutes first. In fact it's impossible to use free night and weekend minutes until you have gone through all of your anytime minutes first. Understanding exactly how your wireless minutes work can help you plan out how to avoid overage charges at the end of the month

Video and Camera Cell Phone Issues

Video and Camera Cell Phones are some of the latest gadgets in the personal tech world. But they do not come without both pluses and minuses for society. For instance if some is committing a crime a teenager can get a picture of their license plates. But another teenager might use it unwisely to take a picture of a girl up her skirt without her knowledge. Or a criminal might use it to photograph your credit card in a store and steal the number and use it for identity theft?

On Congressman is introducing a bill and hoping to make a law against the use of this technology in any criminal act. It is interesting that politicians would create legal penalties for use of technology in a crime when the crime is already illegal. Sometimes it seems to me that these podium pusher lawmakers are scoundrels, as every time someone has an issue they stand up and claim they are going to solve the problem by making another law.

Like after 9-11 one Congressman from IL said the dumbest thing; he said we need a law to prevent this from ever happening again and he proposed that flying an aircraft into a building by Inteational Terrorists be made illegal! I could not believe what I was hearing, it is already illegal to hijack a plane and the FAA says you must park aircraft at aviation facilities and that would preclude parking it into a building and killing innocent people. Not to mention Inteational Acts of Terrorism are already illegal?

Technology can be used in good and bad ways and one think tanker in an online think tank stated; The best technology is always abused by some, and concurrently used by the military for weapons development, such is human nature.

Indeed and I want the very best technologies for my troops in the mode net-centric battlespace. But also there are other ways technology is brought to the forefront; Entertainment is one such instance, medicine and necessity being another.

For instance Virtual Reality, graphics, movie special affects, super high-tech jet skis, racing, new iPod, sports equipment. And medicine there are numerous examples. Necessity; well exploits in de-salination, floating cities, etc. Although as I started thinking about it most of the ones I came up with for medicine, space, entertainment and necessity and even communication like the Inteet were all bo of military hand me down, transfer technologies, so you point is indeed well taken. Consider all this in 2006.

Why Laptops are Different than Desktops

Laptops are different from desktops in the these ways;

1. Power supply: As desktops can be plugged in an outlet in the wall (AC Power) so can laptops with an AC adapter. But how a laptop is different from a desktop is that it is portable because batteries can also power laptops. The batteries are rechargeable; lithium, nickel-cadmium, or nickel-metal hydride.

2. Display: Also like desktops, laptops have some type of LCD display screen. Mode Laptops have 800 x 600 pixel resolution. This gives it a very clear screen and anything less should be avoided.

3. Input Devices: On a desktop computer you usually use a mouse and keyboard to enter data and navigate. With laptops keyboards are built in but since they are portable so they don't have a mouse. Instead they have one of three input devices in place of the mouse. A trackball, rotating the ball allows you to move the cursor. A trackpoint allows you to push your finger over the point to move the cursor. Lastly, a laptop may have a touchpad that you move your finger across to move the cursor.

4. Docking Connections: Many laptops come with a docking connection to make it more comfortable to use at a desk. You just plug your laptop in and use it as a desktop. The docking station comes with many peripheral devices: full size computer monitor, full size keyboard and mouse, disk drives and printer.

Why Your Business Should Consider SMS

As an organisation, the use of SMS might seem too innovative or unprofessional.

So why are "forward-thinking" organisations throughout the world welcoming SMS open-heartedly. What's so good about SMS?

SMS is popular and well-established

To begin with, SMS is extremely popular; each day billions of text-messages fly from phone to phone. Over here in the UK, for example, we send each other over 83 million messages each day.

These facts show that SMS is no longer something new. It's a well-established method of communication, not just an extra function on a mobile phone.

Anytime / Anywhere

The most important aspect of SMS is its unique ability to reach anyone, anytime, anywhere and because there are no barriers in-between the sender and the receiver, every message is almost definitely read.

SMS is a great friendship-marketing tool

As SMS is a personal method of communication, organisations use features like message personalisation to communicate with their clients & staff in a friendly manner, making each recipient feel as if their messages were individually written and sent to them alone.

SMS is reliable

Furthermore, messages sent through reliable service providers are usually delivered within seconds and provide real-time delivery reports.

Now I say 'reliable', because it is possible to route messages through offshore networks on the other side of the world and whilst their prices might be low, so is their reliability.

The Economics Make Sense

SMS is the most cost-effective method of communication and its financial benefits are numerous. Imagine how much time you need to contact 1,000 people by post and how much it would cost. In the UK, this would be

- paper let's say 1p per piece
- envelopes let's say 2p per piece
- stamps these are at least 30p each
- time a lot!

Well SMS can do all of that in less than 5 minutes in a tiny fraction of the cost.

And don't forget, if your organisation uses a database, website or a specialised piece of software, they can easily be SMS-enabled to trigger messages on particular events allowing you to take advantage of SMS without doing anything yourself.

Got the message yet?

Having read this, you would have begun to understand that the only reason many organisations haven't begun to use SMS is a fear of trying something new.

And if you haven't got the message yet, then visit sites like www.bestkeptsimple.org or www.textually.org and read about how organisations like yours are benefiting through SMS.
