Windows Phone 7 is having an exceptionally hard time catching on in the marketplace. Not only is its market share far behind that of Android and iOS, but Microsoft has yet to prove that it can rebuild its ailing mobile division, which continues to appear slow to adapt to the changing demands of today's consumers and enterprise customers. At this point, there's no telling what the future holds for Windows Phone 7. Research firms like Gartner believe the operating system will be fine after a few years as Nokia smartphones start running Windows Phone 7. But other research firms, including ABI Research, say that former Nokia customers will opt for Android or the iPhone, rather than stick with Microsoft.

Simply put, there is substantial uncertainty with Windows Phone 7 right now. Microsoft needs to act quickly to ensure its mobile operating system doesn't fall victim to its entrenched competitors. The company must engage in several key activities as soon as possible to gain a solid footing in the mobile Toshiba pa3534u-1brs batteryเธขย marketplace. It would be nice to see Microsoft fix those quirks and deliver a more appealing user experience.

3. Lean on vendors Microsoft has currently partnered with several hardware vendors to bring its software to the market, including Samsung, HTC, and others. However, those devices are not as well-designed as the iPhone or even some Android-based smartphones. For the most part, they are run-of-the-mill smartphones running Windows Phone 7 nothing more, nothing less. Microsoft must start to lean on vendors to get them to try and push the envelope more with their smartphones. The flashier the device, the more likely it will succeed.

4. Adapt it for tablets So far, Microsoft has said that it plans to offer Windows Phone 7 on smartphones and Windows 7 on tablets. But that's a mistake. As Apple and Google have shown, adapting smartphone-focused operating systems for tablets is actually a much better idea. Plus, with the growth of tablets in today's marketplace, bringing Windows Phone 7 to slates might help improve the appeal of Microsoft's operating system. The longer Microsoft waits, the harder it will be to steal back market share.

7. Fix the update process Microsoft's update process has been abysmal. The company offered up software updates earlier this year to some consumers, only to find that the issue bricked devices. After trying again, more trouble arose. That is unacceptable. In a market where Microsoft is facing off with Apple, whose update processes go off without a hitch, Microsoft needs to find a better way to get new software to customers and fast.

8. Offer a Microsoft-branded smartphone When Google first announced the Nexus One smartphoneเธขย เธขย dell latitude d620 battery , some wondered what its impact would be. After seeing sales of the device dwindle over time, it was clear that the Google-branded option, built by HTC, wasn't a winner in the smartphone space. But it wasn't meant to be. Once complete, it can then focus on consumers and taking on Apple and Google.

10. Work with Motorola Motorola is arguably the best provider of Android-based handsets. The company's Droid X and Droid Pro are outstanding. The Droid X2 looks to be all the more impressive. However, Motorola has not launched a Windows Phone 7-based device. Microsoft needs to address that problem as soon as possible. If it can get Motorola on its side, it might finally get the vendor support it needs to gain a foothold in the mobile market.

The two �stereo specialists� did not show the writer how they had wired the speakers to the power source and to the amplifier. Their failure to grant the writer a look at their wiring operations has caused that writer to now ponder on a particular question: Could a vehicle with car speakers in the doors also have �lambo doors�? In other words, could a car owner who enjoyed the sound delivered by custom car audio logically expect to add �lambo doors� to that same car?

It seems to me that you need billions of dollars and many years to build a major infrastructure to provide nation-wide cellular service. Now new mobile phone companies are appearing oveight. Companies like Virgin Mobile, STi Mobile, Boost Mobile, Tracfone, and Net 10 have already claimed millions of subscribers. Right on their heels even more new companies like Helio, Amp�d, ESPN Mobile, and Disney Mobile are set to launch in 2006.

Welcome to the era of the Mobile Virtual Network Operator or MVNO. A MVNO buys airtime from a major wireless provider and tus around and sells its own branded phones and services. They�ve been around in the United States for a few years, mostly as pre-paid companies. But now suddenly, they�re hot.

Virgin Mobile is the largest MVNO in the U.S., using the Sprint network and targeting the hip youth market. One of the reasons for the more recent larger scale success is that US mobile carriers are now willing to accommodate MVNOs more aggressively.

Previously MVNOs just remarketed cellular services under their own brand, but now a new wave of what I call Muscle-MNVOs are not only using the major carriers network, but are providing new value add-ons. STi mobile utilizes their inteational calling card network to allow for cheap direct dial inteational calls from their phones while using Sprint as a backbone. Boost Mobile and Ampd Mobile are providing multi-media downloads. ESPN Mobile and Disney mobile will provide exclusive media capabilities as well. Helio, a joint venture between SK Telecom (Korea) and Earthlink.net, will take its already successful Korean muscle phones, muscle media, and muscle services model from Korea and introduce it here in the United States. I think these guys are very interesting.

Why are most of the major US mobile companies finally welcoming MVNOs (because many did not in the past)? It is because much of the main stream plan subscriber base is saturated, but the growth opportunities for MVNOs marketing in the prepaid markets, youth, and specialty areas is huge. The Yankee Group, a technology research firm, projects that mobile virtual network operators will generate $11 billion in service revenue by 2010, up from $1.9 billion last year.

Sprint has been the most aggressive MVNO service provider. Let�s hear it for Sprint. I hope they are rewarded highly for their support of competition and creativity in the Mobile Marketplace.

Aaron, a good friend in the US, just bought a shiny new Samsung t809 on a plan from T-Mobile, a relatively inteet-savvy US carrier (relatively speaking anyway.) We went through setting up bluepulse, and it went beautifully until he'd installed it on his phone and launched the bluepulse client.

The bluepulse client was unable to access the inteet, and Aaron said the Opera browser he'd installed couldn't get inteet access either. I knew right away what it was: old inteet settings installed on the phone.

The biggest problem we have is a problem many mobile app developers never get to face: getting the correct carrier inteet settings installed on the customer's handset.

See, even relatively-savvy carriers like T-Mobile are quite lousy when it comes to customer communications. When some proxy server admin guy makes a change to the inteet gateway somewhere deep in the bowels of your carrier's data centre, how many levels of middle management do you suppose that news needs to filter through before it ever reaches a customer?

The correct answer is: too many levels for the news to ever reach a customer.

Of course, the admin guy is unlikely to change anything that will block access to any of the services installed on the carrier's default 'deck', but any other services you might be accessing from your phone? Someone else's problem.

To employ a desktop inteet analogy: it's as if your ISP requires you to access the inteet via their proxy servers, and won't give you reliable access to any inteet services not featured on their homepage. Very Web circa 1995 - the kind of attitude AOL and CompuServe used to have towards the rest of the inteet. And history tells us AOL only just wizened up in time; CompuServe never did.

The good news is; getting the latest inteet settings installed on your phone is only as painful as ringing your carrier's tech support line, waiting on hold because "you're a valued customer" for long enough to speak to a person, and then asking them; "Please send your latest inteet settings to my phone".

To be absolutely sure, ask them for updated settings for "inteet, MMS, and WAP" since carriers often maintain different settings for each.

You'll get a notification on your phone when the settings arrive a few seconds later, and your phone will ask you if you want to install the new settings. Say 'OK' to them all.

It's usually a good idea to tu your phone off for a second or two and then back on (in the same way it's a good idea to reboot your desktop when you install an update). Some carriers may also ask you to send one MMS to a standard carrier address to verify the settings have been installed correctly.

Once you've done that, you should be ready to rock, jive, even jitterbug a little, with bluepulse. And Opera Mini, and the whole rest of the dang inteet (sheesh!)

Quick Power Up Inspection

Power up the laptop if it already isn't on. Make sure to open the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive that comes with the laptop. Look for USB ports and make sure they are in good repair. Locate the vent for the CPU fan (if it has one � most do) and listen to the sound it makes. If you hear any whining or grinding sounds, beware. This may be an indication that the CPU inside has not been getting proper cooling which can definitely lead to problems down the road like random crashes, shut downs, etc...

Examine the LCD Screen

The 1MP digital camera supports a very wide range of image formats, as well as two modes of video in low or medium resolution. It supports multiple video formats, has a 4x digital zoom. The Bluetooth enabled system itself has a web browser and email client. The main problems with this phone are the relatively short lived battery, and the small amount of on-board memory. But at just $310, the feature set gives this phone serious bang for the buck.

If we compare each of these to a normal digital camera, it is easy to see why they are not a good choice if you intend to focus on photography. $350 gets you a Canon SD500 7.1 MP digital camera. It features 3x optical zoom, along with 4x digital zoom, Television AV/out port, proper strobe flash with red-eye reduction, heavily customizable setup, optional automatic lighting conditions compensation, a tripod mount point, full motion video recorded at effective resolution of 0.3MP. It has an SD card slot, and a host of other features too numerous to name. This is not an elite, professional grade camera, however it outperforms every camera phone listed by at least 3:1. and at a lower cost too.

Cellphones have evolved to a point where they more closely resemble a laptop than anything else, combining a truly impressive range of multimedia technologies into one tiny device. Displays are improving rapidly, as is the level of functionality offered by mode mobile phones. As they become more numerous, these features will become increasingly useful as vast networks of people, all armed with such versatile devices will begin to take shape. As of now, however, they are fairly unfocused in their capabilities, offering a very wide range of features, but not delivering any one of them so well as to replace the technology from which the features first came from. While camera cellphones can have their uses, they still do not lend themselves well to high quality photography. Understanding Cell Phone Minutes

Understanding how your cellular minutes work is one of the most confusing and least understood aspects of any wireless communications plan. It's not surprising that this lack of understanding is what leads to shockingly high phone bill surprises. So if you want to prevent getting one it's important to have a basic understanding of how they work.

You basic cell phone plans come with a monthly allotment of anytime minutes, and usually free or night and/or weekend minutes. When you make a call the thing to understand is the phone company is going to use the most expensive minutes first. For example let's say your plan has 200 minutes per month. During the first week of the month all of your calls are made during the day using what are known as peak minutes. You make 120 minutes worth of calls. For the remainder of the month you make 200 minutes worth of calls but they are all at night during the time when your carrier offers free calling. You've used 320 minutes worth of calling time for the month. However to your wireless provider you used 200 of your anytime minutes, and they gave you 120 minutes of free night time calling. Many people make the assumption they only used 120 minutes of calling time and have 80 minutes left unused, which is incorrect. This incorrect assumption can compound itself if the customers has a rollover plan and assumes 80 minutes are �going into the bank�. For this calling period however there will be no overage charges.

Lets look at another example. During the first three weeks of the month you make 200 minutes worth of calls at night during the free calling period. The the last week in the month you make 120 minutes of calls during the day or peak hours. You made 320 minutes worth of calls but the 200 were at night and were free and the 120 is less than the 200 so there will be no overage charges right? Well if you thought like that you'll be pretty surprised with the overage charges that came on your next bill. Your wireless provider used your 200 anytime minutes during the first three weeks when you were calling at night. So when you made the 120 minutes of calls the last week of the month they were all peak overage minutes. Overage minutes are always billed at higher cost than regular minutes which makes the problem worse.

The key point to understand is the wireless provider is always going to use the most expensive minutes first. In fact it's impossible to use �free night and weekend minutes� until you have gone through all of your anytime minutes first. Understanding exactly how your wireless minutes work can help you plan out how to avoid overage charges at the end of the month

Video and Camera Cell Phones are some of the latest gadgets in the personal tech world. But they do not come without both pluses and minuses for society. For instance if some is committing a crime a teenager can get a picture of their license plates. On Congressman is introducing a bill and hoping to make a law against the use of this technology in any criminal act. It is interesting that politicians would create legal penalties for use of technology in a crime when the crime is already illegal. Like after 9-11 one Congressman from IL said the dumbest thing; he said we need a law to prevent this from ever happening again and he proposed that flying an aircraft into a building by Inteational Terrorists be made illegal! I could not believe what I was hearing, it is already illegal to hijack a plane and the FAA says you must park aircraft at aviation facilities and that would preclude parking it into a building and killing innocent people. Not to mention Inteational Acts of Terrorism are already illegal?

Technology can be used in good and bad ways and one think tanker in an online think tank stated; �The best technology is always abused by some, and concurrently used by the military for weapons development, such is human nature.�

1. Power supply: As desktops can be plugged in an outlet in the wall (AC Power) so can laptops with an AC adapter. But how a laptop is different from a desktop is that it is portable because batteries can also power laptops. The batteries are rechargeable; lithium, nickel-cadmium, or nickel-metal hydride.

2. Display: Also like desktops, laptops have some type of LCD display screen. Mode Laptops have 800 x 600 pixel resolution. This gives it a very clear screen and anything less should be avoided.

3. Input Devices: On a desktop computer you usually use a mouse and keyboard to enter data and navigate. With laptops keyboards are built in but since they are portable so they don't have a mouse. Instead they have one of three input devices in place of the mouse. A trackball, rotating the ball allows you to move the cursor. A trackpoint allows you to push your finger over the point to move the cursor. Lastly, a laptop may have a touchpad that you move your finger across to move the cursor.

4. Docking Connections: Many laptops come with a docking connection to make it more comfortable to use at a desk. You just plug your laptop in and use it as a desktop. The docking station comes with many peripheral devices: full size computer monitor, full size keyboard and mouse, disk drives and printer.

Wifi So What Is It

In this article we're going to begin to define what wifi is and just how it works.

Relatively speaking, wifi is a new technology, created within the last couple of years at the time of this writing. However, the basis on which is created is not really new. Wifi is short for wireless fidelity as applied to connecting multiple computers. Or in other words, wireless networking.

The reason this is not really new is because we've had wireless forms of communication for some time now. One needs to look no further than ones own hi fidelity stereo system. The signal from the ration station transceiver travels wireless through the air until it reaches the antenna connected to your radio. This technology has been around for ages. But as applied to computers, yes, this is something very new.

So, how does wireless networking work?

The 802.11 standard, on which networks are based, defines two modes which are infrastructure mode and ad hoc mode. With infrastructure mode, the wireless network is composed of at least one access point which is connected to the wired network infrastructure which includes a set of wireless end stations. This particular configuration is called a Basic Service Set or BSS. An extended service set, or ESS, is a set of multiple BSS sets which form a single subnetwork. Because most WLANs require access to a wired LAN for services such as file servers, printers and Inteet links, they usually operate in infrastructure mode.

The difference between Ad Hoc mode and Infrastructure mode is that Ad Hoc mode is just a set of 802.11 wireless stations that communicate directly with each other without using an access point or any connection to a network that is wired. This mode is great for quickly and easily setting up a wireless network where a wireless infrastructure doesn't exist or is simply not needed for services. Some places where this would be true are hotel rooms, convention centers and airports or any place where wired networks are forbidden.

While connected to a wireless network, you can do most basic things that are not too intensive such as check email, browse the Inteet, connect to conferences, access your home directory, use programs such a network word processor and use printing services. You should not use wireless networks for streaming audio or video, downloading anything that is large or viewing web sites that are intense in graphics.

Even though wireless networks are nice to look at you will still get the best performance and highest speeds from wired networks. Generally speaking, a wireless connection works the same way as an Etheet connection. The speed of a wireless network is about 11 megabits per second. The problem is that with a wireless network you have to share the bandwidth with all the users connected to the wireless network in a given network. This is what slows the network down and makes intensive operations difficult to perform. It is because of this that wireless networks will never be as fast as a wired Etheet network.

Satellite television on your cell phone? That's what Samsung says it's working on.

A whole new world looks set to emerge with video-on-the-go services _ and the traditional couch potato may become a thing of the past.

Their cell phone would receive multimedia programming broadcasts direct via satellite or from terrestrial repeaters. It's still in development, but is expected to be compatible with a new satellite broadcasting service that is planned to launch in South Korea and Japan later this year.

It's expected to have around 70 channels of entertainment not including pay-per-view. The service will be broadcast on frequencies around 2.6GHz, close to the 2.1GHz band used by 3G telephone services. However a clear signal is still required so Mobile Broadcasting has been building a network of repeaters across Japan to provide fill-in service.

Satellite DMB enables people on the move to enjoy seamless video streaming, theater-quality audio and data through a hand-held device much like a handset or an in-car terminal

DBS satellite services in the United States have a much larger land area to cover. The beams can't be as focused. Multiple spot beams might concentrate the signal however. A second approach would be to use satellite radio services that already exist in the United States (with repeaters). A third approach might be to use FM radio stations equipped with terrestial HD radio. The video payload might travel on the subcarrier of terrestrial FM stations. HD radio does something the U.S. DTV television standard can't -- move. And you don't need a big payload for tiny screens.

The company aims to make take-out TV more attractive by increasing the number of video channels to 14 by adding popular over-the-air programs to its line-up.

We can sit back and watch as this new technology takes hold, or we can embrace it now and be state of the art. TV on your cell phone will bring a whole slew more options to you and could really catch on as the medium of choice for many people.

I would highly suggest that you keep an eye on Samsung and their emerging technology. This will be more than just a fad and I can see where many, many people would take to this type of portable entertainment.
